Lillmars

**My class is swimming during 1st hour this week. So, we will watch CNN10, but will not work on additional social studies topics until next week. **

Science: Today in class, we watched a Bill Nye video about the water cycle and discussed terminology. No homework.

Today we did a quick mini lesson over ideas for how to start our stories & when to change to a new paragraph in story writing.  Then, students worked on brainstorming sheet or started writing if already approved.  HW - Continue work on brainstorm if not finished!

Social Studies -
Today we started a new read aloud - Refugee by Alan Gratz.  Then, we continued work on our art drawings of the terms urban, suburban, and rural.  No Homework!

Social Studies -
We had an awesome week at swimming!!  Social Studies returns on Monday!

SS:  Today we continue our discussion about the causes and effects of urbanization as a global issue.  NO HW

Math:  We are practicing finding surface area of prisms and pyramids by working through a practice packet.  This is not homework, but they may work on it if they choose to.  We will continue working on it on Monday!

Today, we did a warm up game -- Guess where I am?  Students had to tap into their descriptive powers to describe a location with detail.  Then, students had a little time to begin their story brainstorming. No Homework!!

Social Studies -
We continued with swimming today!  One more day!  I am so proud of the growth I have seen & the participation efforts of ALL of my homeroom students! :)

Today we shared & discussed the elements we found in our picture books yesterday.  Then, students were "officially" introduced to their story writing assignment & some parameters were discussed.  Next up, brainstorming!!!  No Homework!

Social Studies -
No SS due to swimming!  I am so proud of how well the students are doing!!

Math:  Oops!  We didn't get to the #6-17 yesterday, but we did start it today.  Finish for Thursday!!!

SS:  We are continuing to work on our ideas of what Urbanization is and how it impacts the world.  No HW

Science: Today in Science we did a lab with metal washers and water. No homework!

Social Studies: We watched CNN10 and did a natural resources mining activity with chocolate chip cookies. No homework!

We had another great day in swimming!! :) 

English -  Students enjoyed a picture book on their own or with a partner & then had to apply the story elements, figurative language, and genre knowledge we have gained from the past few weeks.  If they finished early, they had time to work on their figurative language mini poster.  :)  No Homework!!

Social Studies - No class due to swimming.  Students did have time to work on their urban, suburban, and rural drawings in homeroom today though.  No Homework!

Math:  Today we finished making nets and finding surface area.  We moved on to finding the surface area of a shape instead of a net.  Finish problems 6 - 17 for tonight.

SS:  Posters due today!  No HW

English -
Today we reviewed dialogue, figurative language, and story elements.  Then, students had an opportunity to reflect and rate themselves on these skills.  This is good communication for me, so that I know how they feel about using these skills as we begin our narrative writing.  No Homework!

Social Studies -
We will not be doing Social Studies this week due to our swimming time. 

** Schuiteman Homeroom students did a great job listening and participating in the first day of swimming!  Come with your needed items tomorrow too! :) **

SS:  Urban, Suburban and Rural posters are due tomorrow.  Most kiddos finished in class today.  There will not be additional time in class to work on these tomorrow.

Math:  We spent time today creating nets of shapes and assembling the shapes.  Tomorrow we apply this to finding the surface area of shapes.  No HW

Today we went to library for checkout, played a game to practice figurative language, and organized who will create what figurative language sample for our classroom.  No Homework!

Social Studies -
Today we worked on our suburban, urban, and rural art project.  No Homework!!

I will be at a conference on Friday!  Students will have work days in both English and Social Studies on a few different activities.  There will not be homework in either class.

Today we finished Chu Ju's House.  Then, we did a brainstorm session and rough draft for an art piece we will create to illustrate urban, suburban, & rural communities.  No Homework!!

Math:  Today we continued to review inequalities for quizzes Wednesday and Thursday.  Finish review tonight if not done in class.

Today we watched CNN 10, read another chapter in our read aloud book, and completed some vocabulary terms with samples to start on our next topic - urbanization.  No Homework!


** Schuiteman homeroom begins swimming next week Monday!!  Even though the weather outside is frightful, students will need to be looking for a swim suit and towel to be ready for next Monday! **

Math:  We are reviewing inequalities for quizzes on Wednesday and Thursday.  Finish the practice titled, "Quiz 7.5 - 7.7" for tomorrow.

Math:  Today we looked at our attempts at adding and subtracting inequalities.  Then we tried multiplying and dividing them.  Finish 7.6B for Thursday.

Today we watched CNN 10 to catch up of a few world events.  Then, we caught up with Chu Ju in a chapter of our read aloud.  Finally, we started to work on a few new vocabulary terms.
