Thursday:
English -
Today we went to library for checkout & then did a "Read In".  No Homework!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10, discussed our weather and hazard findings, and then we watched a Bill Nye on Storms.  No Homework!

Friday:
Students will have a couple of activities to participate in today.... we will be making "race cars" out of limited materials & then actually racing them.  We will be watching a short movie as well.  There is no homework!

Have a safe, fun, and relaxing Spring Break!!  See you April 10!!!

Math:  Today we finished the Pharoh's Tomb.  If you didn't finish, you need to get it done and turned in to Mrs. Young ASAP!  No other homework!

Reminder - We will be going on our field trip tomorrow.  There is nothing special the kids need to bring or do, just wanted to reminder you we would be traveling to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts tomorrow morning for the film festival.  :)

Science:
This week in Science, the students finished the second experiment to "prove" the Law of Conservation of Mass. To do this, we used Alka Seltzer, a balloon, water, and a triple beam balance. It turned out pretty neat!

Today, students began reviewing the matter unit with a few questions. We will finish these tomorrow, along with a heat curve graph. An assessment will be coming soon (middle of next week)!


Social Studies:
We watched CNN 10 and started working on population pyramids. No homework!

Students had a last work period on their genre partner presentations.  They are busy identifying specific characteristics of their selected genre & getting ready to share 2 book recommendations in their genre.  Homework- Is your presentation ready?

Social Studies -
Today we continue to discuss the definition of region & human environment interaction.  We also did a journal and started to talk more about how humans interact with the environment.  No Homework!


**Your student was given a note to bring home yesterday -- hopefully they shared it!!  The note is just to let you know of a field trip that is coming up next week!  We will be headed to the Saugatuck Arts Center next Wednesday (the 22nd) in the morning for a film festival.  There is no cost & no need for additional chaperones.  Please let us know if you have any questions!**

Today we shared good news & read in our read aloud.  Then, we went through the requirements of a mini partner project on Genre.  Finally, students were given a partner, and selected a genre to begin preparing a project.  No Homework!

Social Studies -
Today we discussed the population pyramids and the conclusions we made for each on Friday.  Then, we discussed the current or future issues for those countries based on population.  Finally, students looked at some "What if..." scenarios and came up with some conclusions.  No Homework!

Schuiteman - Tuesday

I will be out of the classroom at a conference on Tuesday, so I thought I would update the blog right now.

English -
Students will work on a preview of our next unit - the narrative reading and writing unit.  They will be reading a story and working on diving into the narrative elements in the story - setting, characters, exposition, rising action, climax, etc.  No Homework!

Social Studies -
Students will be reading a Junior Scholastic article called, "Escape from a War Zone".  No Homework!!

Today students worked on their "post on demand" essay & some started to do a comparison sheet.  They are trying to pinpoint at least 3 pieces of learning from our unit.  No Homework!

Today we discussed what a population pyramid is, its purpose, and we created one for our class.  No Homework!

Today we read another chapter in our read aloud -- we are almost done!  :)
Then, we worked on a "Post On Demand" Essay, where students chose a topic and worked to show off what they learned about writing an essay.  We will compare this with our "Pre On Demand" Essay on Monday to really see how far we have come!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10.  Then, students finished up & we discussed the Venn Diagram they completed on their gender equality comparison.  Then, we started to look at the percent of population around the world that is under the age of 15.  We will continue this on Monday.  No Homework!

We read one last chapter from Chu Ju's House & then checked out a couple of pages in a book called This Child, Every Child.  Then, we did a Venn Diagram to compare & contrast how boys and girls as well as children in China vs. United States are all treated differently or the same.  No Homework!

Social Studies -
Today we did a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast being a child in China vs. being a child in the United States.
Then, we used some Social Studies time to complete a school wide kickoff to March is Reading Month & we read! :)
