SCHUITEMAN

English -
Today we had a printing and sharing time with our final essays!  Many students also started a review of key essay terms and concepts.  We will review tomorrow & then have a short quiz on Thursday.
No Homework!!

Social Studies -
We read in Chu Ju's House & answered questions.  We also watched a short clip on gender equality and had a discussion over whether students feel that boys and girls are treated as equals.  Interesting conversations!!  No Homework!

Science: Today we continued presentations for the "Just Try It" experiments students completed at home. We will *hopefully* finish those tomorrow.

Social Studies: Today we continued presentations on China's population consequences. No homework!

Mrs. Young

Math:  Today we worked with PEMDAS for order or operations and exponents.  I've asked that kids spend no more than 20 minutes on it tonight, but quality minutes.  Done or not, that's it.  Calculators are OK.  Weekly math is due Friday, no calculators!

SS:  Today we finished Chu Ju and started making notes for us to use on an assessment in the near future about China's views of boys and girls.  No HW

Today we had a day to work on a variety of finishing touches and editing pieces for our research essay!  Tomorrow we will finish up and print!!  HW - IF you have quite a bit to do before you are ready to print, you should be working at home if at all possible!!

Social Studies -
Today we continued with the book Chu Ju's House.  Students read some passages & answered some questions.  We then discussed.  No Homework!

Today we read aloud in our book & then had a mini lesson on how to use easybib.com to create a bibliography page.  Finally, students had work time to type, edit, or do their bibliography.  HW- IF YOU ARE NOT DONE AT LEAST TYPING YOUR ESSAY, PLEASE FINISH THIS WEEKEND!!

Social Studies -
We watched CNN 10 News.  We will continue our population study of China also.

Social Studies: We cut class a tad short today to make room for the "talk" given by Mr. Frens this morning. Parents, I believe a letter from Mr. Frens has been emailed to you in regards to the discussion had for all 6th graders today. No SS homework!

Math:  Weekly homework was due today!  If you haven't finished the "finger spread" statistics and the "standing reach" statistics, please have those finished for Monday.  Calculators are a necessity for this work.  Find the mean, median, mode, range, IQR, make a box & whisker plot, and a dot plot.

In all classes today we address the idea of insubordination.  There seems to be a lot of this lately.  Trying to get us back on track a little bit.

Math:  Today we worked with statistics of earthworms, mice and the size of our hands from thumb to pinky.  Weekly homework is due tomorrow!  No calculators!

Today we went to library for checkout, and then we continued working on our essays.  Students kept typing & also worked on some self editing exercises if they were done.  A few students started some peer editing as well!  HW - If you are behind on typing (don't have intro & body typed) you should type at home if at all possible!!!

Social Studies -
Today we discussed our journal and China history worksheet to start.  Then, we watched a video clip and discussed China's 1 child policy.  Finally, we started a book that we will read certain parts of to get a better idea what life was like for one child in China.  No Homework!

Math:  We continue working with statistics.  Today we found the mean, median, mode, range, and IQR of our shoe sizes along with creating a box and whisker graph.  Pretty cool!  Weekly homework is due Friday.  No calculators.

Today we watched CNN 10 and then started a Population Study of China.  We will look at patterns and discuss the positive and negative impacts of high population.  No HW.

Today we read in our read aloud, and then we worked on our essays.  Students were working to finish up the completion of the rough draft & some started to type their rough draft.  HW - Finish your rough draft if it is not done!!!

Social Studies -
Today we took on an Outdoor Action Day Challenge & went outside.  We took a walk around the campus & then worked on trying to draw what an ariel map would be of our campus.

Today in Science, the students who were ready began their ice melt investigation. Many students were able to finish their data gathering. Students will have a chance to quickly finish this tomorrow.

Today we read in our read aloud.  We reviewed what a good paragraph should have & then students had work time.  They needed to work on their organizer if it was not approved yet.  If the organizer was approved, then they had were cleared to begin writing.  No Homework unless you are still one of the few that need more research!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10 & then we did a journal over population density.  Finally, we discussed the journal questions.  No Homework!

Today we watched CNN 10 for current events.  We then did an activity to demonstrate population density & what it might be like to live in a low density area or a high density area.  No Homework!!

Today we read another chapter from our read aloud.  Next, we went over the standards for our research essay writing -- we discussed how to get a "3" and how to get a "4".  Finally, they had a little time left to continue working on organizing their essays.  No Homework!!

Today we watched CNN 10.  Then, we discussed conclusions from our maps yesterday.  Finally, we started defining and looking at examples of population density.  No Homework!

Science: Today in Science the students had their last chance to collect data for paper towel strength. They spent the remainder of the hour working on the lab write-up with their partner(s).

HW: I went over information about the "Just Try It" (at home experiment) yesterday. These are DUE on Feb 27, and should have a completed experiment, a lab write-up, and a presentation.

Social Studies: We watched CNN 10 and continued discussing the population in China. No homework.

Today we read our book aloud, we went over some "plans" for essays to discuss if they would work, and then we started to make plans for the categories of our essays.  Once we had a plan, we started sorting our research.  Homework -- there are a few students who still need more research!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10 and then discussed the 12 largest countries in the world by population and by land area.  We drew & discussed some conclusions about this information.  No Homework!

Today we read Chapter 20 in our read aloud.  We went over the sample essay activity.  Finally, we completed a sheet that challenged us to look at if a variety of essay plans "worked".   The goal is to get them thinking about what categories their research could be divided into.
Homework - If you need any more facts for research, you have to finish up tonight!!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10 & then we worked on a visual representation of what percent of the world population lives where.  No Homework!

Math:  Today we got caught up on a few things from the week.  We also reviewed changing numbers back and forth between fractions-decimals-percents, as well as putting fractions in lowest terms.  No HW

Today we read another chapter in our read aloud.  Students did a reflection sheet to help prep for conferences.  Finally, we looked together at a sample research essay.  Homework - Do you have enough research??  Students in good standing have at least 15-18 facts!!  Research should be done by Monday!  Finish as needed this weekend!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10.  We then started population density & population distribution with a journal, a discussion, and a look at a map.  No Homework!!

Math:  Mrs. Young was out of the classroom yesterday and many, many problems were assigned by the substitute teacher.  These are not due right away, but were problems we were planning to work on this week.  I am planning to go over them Friday!  Sorry for any confusion.  Today we took a quiz, had time to work on the papers, and study our squares and cubes.
