Students participated in Fuel Up To Play 60 events and some Christmas themed activities this morning!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!  MERRY CHRISTMAS!  It has been my absolute pleasure to spend these months with your child and your family!  I look forward to 2018 and continuing our partnership!  Be safe and enjoy your time!

Math:  Today we took an online assessment/data gathering tool.  Then, we played.  We don't get a chance to let loose and just play very often!  No HW

SS:  Our culture cubes were due today!  Wow, were they amazing!  No HW

Today we went to the library to checkout books (and students received an optional Christmas break bingo activity).  Then, we finished watching "A Christmas Carol" and discussed similarities and differences between the play and movie.  No Homework!

Social Studies -
Students continued the activity today with the iPads to learn about how different cultures celebrate Christmas.  We discussed and shared at the end to wrap up.  No Homework!!

Today we continued to watch "A Christmas Carol" and discussed comparisons on what we pictured in our mind for each ghost to look like while reading the play versus what each one looked like in the movie.  We will finish up tomorrow!  No Homework!

Social Studies -
Students did an activity today with the iPads to learn about how different cultures celebrate Christmas.  No Homework!!

Math:  Today we retested our geometry area.  We also reviewed our expressions skills for an online assessment tomorrow.  Finish review if not done in class.

SS:  Today we worked on our culture cubes.  Finish if not done in class.

Math:  Today we took our assessment on ratios and rates.  Tomorrow, retest for geometry area.  Be sure your review is finished for tomorrow if you are retesting.

Today we started the movie version of "A Christmas Carol".  We are watching one of the older, classic versions of the movie, and will be doing a comparison to the similarities and differences to the play.  No Homework!!

Social Studies -
Today we finished up our country presentations & we went to Mrs. Lillmars' class to present to others.  No Homework!!

Lillmars

Science: Today the students did their initial self-created investigation and lab write-up (sort of like a science pre-test). Tomorrow we will finish these up and begin learning about each step to these lab write-ups. No homework!

SS: We watched CNN10, a short video clip about Vikings and then began creating a culture collage. Students were asked to put their name and 10 descriptive words/pictures about their own culture on a paper. We will finish these tomorrow. No hw.

SS:  Today we finished Kolkata.  If you didn't finish, you need to finish tonight in order to turn in tomorrow.  After tomorrow, it's late.  Also, Mrs. Y introduced our Holiday culture project.

Math:  Today we finished our rates and ratios packet.  Due tomorrow if not finished in class today.  Geometry review is due Tuesday and we will requiz then.

SS:  We continue our exploration of Kolkata.  These packets will be HW tomorrow if not finished in class.  Optional to work on them tonight.

Math:  We are continuing to work on our rates/ratios packet.  We will be collecting these Friday!
     Also, many students need to retest geometry area.  They received their quizzes today as well as a review sheets to refresh their skills.  We spent a large chunk of class reteaching and asking/answering questions.  Fingers crossed for better results Monday as we re-quiz then.

Today we defined a classic in literary terms.  Then, we introduced "A Christmas Carol", selected parts, and started reading the play version.  No Homework!!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10 and then selected countries for a research culture project we will work on the rest of the week.  No Homework!!

Science: Today the students took an oil map assessment to end our "One Land" unit. Tomorrow we will start our unit on creating investigations/lab write-ups. No homework!

Social Studies: Today the students FINALLY finished the Samoa video and then worked with a partner to read a couple sections from our online textbook. No homework!

Math:  Spend about 20 minutes working on the ratio packet.  This will be due later this week, but we will be working on it in class for part of the time daily.

SS:  We are learning about Kolkata.  No HW

Today we did a warm up review of text features, we went over the summarization exercise from our article on Friday, and we checked our vocabulary pre test.  No Homework!!

Social Studies -
Today we watched a special edition of CNN 10 about the plastic problem in the Pacific Ocean, and then we did an observation activity and discussed stereotyping.  No Homework!!

Science: Today the students watched a demonstration about how the Hawaiian volcanoes were formed. They wrote a 7-part journal entry explaining how the demo worked.

No homework, but the students were told they could use a disposable water bottle starting Weds in class. If they don't bring one in, I have plenty they can borrow. If they do want to bring one in, it should just be a standard sized one (16.9 ounces) if possible.

Social Studies: The students wrote about the "young immigrants" we learned about last week. Then, we finished watching the Samoa video clip from last week. No HW.

Science: Today, the students learned about "hot spot" volcanoes and how this rare phenomenon has formed the Hawaiian islands. Then, we watched a Bill Nye video about earthquakes. No homework!

Social Studies: Students watched CNN10, finished their "Young Immigrants" research, and watched a video clip about Samoa. No homework!

Science: Today in Science, the students watched a couple video clips about plate tectonics, wrote a journal entry explaining a couple ideas, and they created a demonstration of how the new sea floor is made with their table groups. No homework!

SS: The students watched CNN10 and then continued working on the young immigrants assignment from yesterday. No homework!

Social Studies: Students watched CNN 10 and heard about tomorrow's activity of "meeting" a few young immigrants from around the world. No homework!

I'm glad to be back, though we did need some reminders about how to behave when we have a guest in our room.😮

SS:  Today we finished our discussion about early settlement of the US, as well as the discovery of a clovis point in 2013.  On to culture tomorrow!!!  No HW

Math:  Today we worked on getting familiar with ratios.  HW:  finish 5.1B - Not Mrs. Lillmars class!

Math:  Basic skills review from chapters 1 - 4.  Homework depended on how well students worked during class.  May vary by class.

Ss:  Map skills and map reading practice.  HW depended upon work time effort/behavior.

Students completed a pre-test over standard RI.6.2 (Summarizing an informational article).  Then, those that needed time continued working on their argument assessment.  Some students had some reading time.  No Homework!

We finished and discussed the activity about young immigrants.  Then, we did a little reading on the history of migration & movement.  No Homework!
