In science this week we are doing a shortened version of the rock unit.

Well, it has finally begun.  We are seeing a rapid decline in behavior and work completion.  Please take a moment to talk with your child and encourage them to "Be The Good" and finish the year strong and on a positive note.  We still have lots to do before June 9!

Today we had our last work day for book clubs.  Students should have the book finished and all 6 jobs done in the packet by their meeting tomorrow.

Social Studies -
Today we continued to work on our physical feature investigation presentations.  The hope is to start presenting either Thursday or Friday.  No HW!

Today we wrapped up the global problems writing assignment & then started to discuss the top 10 physical features of the Earth.  No HW!

Science: Today in Science, the students continued working on their "memory" game to review for the Solid Earth assessment. On Monday we will cut the pieces apart and play the game! The assessment will be Tuesday.

HW: the game pieces need to be completed for Monday. This means the 4 pages with vocabulary terms listed on them!

Social Studies: We continued studying migration today. No homework!

Math:  After a grueling MStep today, we worked on taking some notes on statistics.  This will be handy for our statistics projects we will start working on soon.  Delta Review packets are due tomorrow.  We will "Delta Up" on Friday.

SS:  No social studies today due to MStep testing.

Today we took the Math MSTEP!!   Due to MSTEP, we had shortened classes.

English -
We plan to explain book club job requirements, get our books, & preview what the start of book clubs will look like tomorrow.  HW - Keep working away at your stories!!  Stories are due Friday, unless you have made other arrangements with me specifically!

Science: This week has been composed of building, shaking, and testing our earthquake towers. We'll finish testing and tallying points tomorrow and then begin reviewing for our solid Earth assessment.

Math:  Today we took the Delta screener for the last time (at least for the 6th grade test).  Wow, have we improved!  Scores will be posted on power school as soon as I can.  We will take the 7th grade test on Friday!  This tests material learned in 6th grade.  We also started looking at the Mean Absolute Deviation and some more work with statistics.  Delta review is due Thursday.

SS:  Today we started looking at the jobs Social Scientists do.  Interesting...

Today we had our last class time to work on stories!!  Throughout the week this week, students should continue to work at home and during homeroom time to finish up the typing of their stories as needed.  HW- CONTINUE TO TYPE TO FINISH

Social Studies -

Math:  Today we reviewed surface area.  Next week we will continue working on preparing for MStep AND 7th grade Delta screener.  In addition, next week we will be finishing up some Statistics and Geometry.  It is a crazy time of year.  Hang in there!  Weekly homework was due today.  This is the last weekly homework for the year.  There will be some days that have homework to complete that evening instead as we finish up and assess some remaining concepts.  Keep posted here for days and assignments.

SS:  Today was a catch up day.  No Homework.  Next week we will start working through the role of a social scientist in the world.

We ended up not getting to social studies yesterday due the length of MSTEP, so we will start today with the discussion of problems that come from urbanization & selecting a problem to research.  No HW!

Today we shared our drawings.  Then, we revisited the problems that come from urbanization & megacities.  Students will be selecting one of these problems to do some research and a small writing project soon!  No Homework!

Mrs. Young is out of the classroom Monday and Tuesday! Class Plans Below!

Math:  Monday - We are working on preparing for the MStep.  Review packet due today.  We also are working on the area of complex shapes and the area of shape nets.  Both sheets are due Tuesday.  Weekly HW is due Friday.
            Tuesday - We are continuing working with surface area (area of nets).  Complex Shapes and Net Areas due today.  Also, we covered a jenga block AND had to cut out the nets of 4 different shapes for our work tomorrow (Wed).  Weekly HW is due Friday.

SS:  Monday - Natural Resources papers MUST be shared with me by the end of the day today.  The bibliography should be copied and pasted at the end of the paper before sharing.  My email is ayoung@hamiltonschools.us --- Following the completion and sharing of the paper, students will be reading some information from two sources on childhood obesity and school lunches.  After which they will answer some questions and write an argument response.  This will not be done today and will be finished on Tuesday in class.
          Tuesday - We will finish the childhood obesity work from Monday and work with a Junior Scholastic magazine on fake news.  If not finished with the childhood obesity reading/writing today, it is homework.

Typing, typing, typing.... most students are working at getting their revised rough drafts typed up.  There are a few students still writing (I have met with them all) & they should continue to write if at all possible this weekend.  Otherwise, there is no assigned homework.

Today we watched CNN 10 & then we worked on our Urban, Suburban, Rural Art Activity.  No Homework!!

Math:  We are continuing our work with area.  If not finished with the graphing/area it is due tomorrow (we've worked several days on it).  Challenge questions are optional.  Weekly homework is due tomorrow.  MSTEP review is due Monday.

SS:  Natural Resources paper - final draft is due Monday.  Should be typed on google docs and shared with ayoung@hamiltonschools.us - this includes the bibliography.  We've spent 2+ weeks on this.  It should be finished.

Today we introduced the concept of a megacity and discussed the positives & negatives of urbanization.  Then, students started work on an art connection activity that we are doing to go along with the terms urban, suburban, and rural.  No Homework!

Math:  Today we graphed shapes and worked with area.  Weekly HW due Friday.  MStep review due Monday.

SS:  Natural Resources research essay - we are continuing our work.  Many students are at the writing stage.  Some had to be reminded to produce quality.  Just because this isn't English some felt they didn't have to produce anything of substance.  I yi yi!!!

Seeing a huge increase in the containers of "slime" that are coming to school.  This is becoming a HUGE distraction in class.  Please talk with your student about keeping this in their locker for lunch break instead of bringing it to class.  Same for the spinner gadgets and rubix cubes.  They should stay in their lockers for lunchtime.  Thank you!

Today we went over the proficiency scales for the narrative piece.  Then, we continued working on our stories & some students started to revise & edit.  The goal is to start working on typing up the draft at some point during class tomorrow.  Students must show some revision before getting a computer.  HW - PLEASE WRITE TONIGHT IF YOUR ROUGH DRAFT IS NOT DONE!!!

Social Studies -
Today we talked about the term "urbanization" and the trends that are occurring around the world.  Then, we did an activity where we looked at some cartoons & discussed the message.  No Homework!
