English -
Today students used the checklist to continue with editing & putting finishing touches on their essay.  Some students even printed their essay! :)  HW - WORK AT HOME IF BEHIND!!  All essays should be printed or be ready to print during the hour tomorrow!

Social Studies -
Today we discussed the impact of disasters on different areas like health, economy, and environment.  NO Homework!!

Science: Today the students continued working on their cartoon/comic about the states of matter. These are DUE TOMORROW and will be presented to the class.

Social Studies: We watched CNN 10 and did more natural hazard presentations.

Ss:  Today we started our learning about how a natural hazard compares to a natural disaster.  No HW

Math:  Today we learned what it means to reflect points in the coordinate plane.  Finish reflection pages for tomorrow!  Coordinate plane pictures completed and colored for Friday!

Social Studies: Today we watched CNN 10 and presented Natural Hazard projects. If your project is finished, you have no HW.

Today students were shown easybib.com  This is an online resource where students could create their Works Cited page in a proper format.  I modeled the use of the resource & then students had a chance to use it.  No Homework (unless you are behind on typing)!

Social Studies -
Today we watched CNN 10.  Then, we read an article called, "What are disasters?"  With this article, we practiced a few reading skills & looked at when natural hazards become natural disasters. 
No Homework!

SS:  Natural Hazard projects due today!

Math:  Today we learned the the coordinates and coordinate dance.  We also worked on graphing skills and picked our two pictures we will make.  Picture directions and graph paper will be provided tomorrow.  Pictures finished and colored for Friday!!  Finish 6.5A for Wednesday!

Today we did a mindful minutes to enjoy a little quiet and relaxation.  Then, we worked on our essays -- some continued typing, some did a self check,  and some did a peer share & check.  HW - TYPE if at all possible if you are not done with typing!

Social Studies -
Today we watched the CNN 10 we skipped yesterday with an uplifting story & then we did a small group sharing rotation as well as an "open house" style sharing with our projects.  Students needed to take note of the definitions and facts about each natural hazard.  NO Homework!

Today was a great work day!!!  Most students are on the road to typing their drafts for their essays!!  HW - If you are not past the self editing point yet, you need to work at home!!!

Social Studies -
Today we did a nice job working hard on our natural hazards project!  Tomorrow will hopefully be the last work day in class!  HW - If you feel behind, spend some time at home tonight on your project!

Math:  Today we introduced rational numbers (includes whole numbers, fractions and decimals, both positive, negative and zero).  We learned strategies to order them.  Finish practice and complete performance task for tomorrow.

Science: Today in Science, we talked about note taking and reading nonfiction text. The students read an article about the states of matter. No homework!

Social Studies: The students continued working on their natural hazard projects. No homework (unless kids choose to work on their project/are behind on their project).

Students watched CNN 10 & worked on their natural hazard project for most of the hour.  No Homework!

SS:  Rough Draft of our natural hazards project due today.  We did some peer editing and began to assemble our final drafts.  Final drafts are due Monday, 2/26!

Math:  Today we continued our look at integers.  Notes on comparing integers can be found to the right under the math notebook link.  We need to finish our practice on comparing integers and our Tuesday Performance task for tomorrow.

Science: Today in Science, the students took a pretest about the states of matter. Then, they looked through a kids magazine on the topic and wrote down interesting facts about the topic. No homework!

Social Studies: Students continued working on their natural hazard projects today. We will work on them through our class time on Weds and they will likely be DUE FRIDAY.

Today we went over the standards for the essay -- in other words, what does it take to get a 3? or 4?
Then, students picked up with their work where they are.... some worked on rough drafts, some on self editing, some on peer feedback.  HW - FINISH ROUGH DRAFT IF NOT DONE!

Social Studies -
Today we had a work time on our Natural Hazard projects.  No Homework!

Math:  We started looking at integers today.  Students should finish 6.1A for tomorrow.  Also, weekly homework will be a little different this week as we are practicing performance tasks.  Monday's task is due Tuesday.

This morning, we ran a slightly different schedule because we had guests here from the Outdoor Discovery Center to share some science experiences with us.

Math:  Weekly homework is due.  We took a quiz on converting measurement.  No HW
English:  Students worked on their writing.  Body paragraphs should be done.  Mrs. Schuiteman is going to expect introductions/conclusions to be done by Tuesday next week.  Students were given a self-editing sheet, as well as a direction reminder sheet for intro/concl.

SS:  We are continuing our work on our natural hazards projects.  Yesterday, students were given a check list.  We've done Explain so many times this year so far, these should be very high quality when finished.  Yes, they can work on this at home.

Today we went over the "formula" for writing an introduction paragraph.  Then, students had time to write their introductions and continue to work on body paragraphs as needed.  No Homework unless they would like to work on writing.

Today we watched CNN 10 & discussed.  Then, students continued research and planning over their natural hazard project.  No Homework!

Ss:  We are continuing our work on our natural hazards projects.  Many kiddos are strugging with producing quality work.  Fast, rather than good!

Science: Today in Science, the students saw a few more classmate presentations from "Kenzie's Kitchen Problem". We then split into partner groups and selected pre-made slides to look at through the microscope.No homework!

Social Studies: The students chose their two topics for the start of their natural hazards project. No homework!

Math:  Today we took an online assessment over rates and ratios.  The packet of 16 problems from yesterday is due tomorrow.  Weekly HW is due Friday.

Today students had work time on their body paragraphs.  They seemed to need the time for the entire hour, so that is what we did today! :)  HW - Work on body paragraphs if you feel behind!  We will be doing introductions tomorrow for sure!

Today students continued to work on their natural hazard project.  Some students worked on research, while some started planning their actual project.  No Homework!

SS:  Today we finished videos on our top 10 different Natural Hazards.  The project was introduced to get the kiddos "thinking" about what they might do.  We have not started working on these projects yet.

Math:  Today we continued working on finding the % of a number AND finding the whole when given the part and %.  Students should continue working on their weekly homework (no calculators) to discover who stole Excalibur.  Chart "Find the Missing Piece" is due tomorrow.  Calculators are OK!

Today we went over the 5 standards that the students will be graded on for their informational essay.  Then, students worked at organizing their research into the categories for their body paragraphs.  No Homework unless they need to gather more research (a few kiddos found they needed more today)!

Social Studies -
Students learned about a new natural hazard project -- they will be doing a creative communications project about 2 of the natural hazards.  More to come in the coming days.  No Homework!

SS:  Today we began our exploration of natural hazards.  No HW

Math:  Today we tried to play "catch-up".  Upon Mrs. Y's return, it was difficult to determine what was done and what was still left to do by our guest teachers.  Practice 5.6 A & B and Puzzletime 5.6 were assigned before Mrs. Y was out.  Therefore, they will be due and checked tomorrow at the start of the hour.  "Find the missing Pieces" will be due and checked Wednesday.  We are looking to quiz on Wednesday!  Weekly homework looks a little different this week.  For fun, we are using our mad math skills to identify who stole Excalibur.  Ask your child about this assignment.  It is due Thursday.
